Exposure Programme

Requests for training in psychosocial work with orphans and vulnerable children come to Sinomlando from various parts of Africa. Bringing community workers to South Africa has proven to be more cost effective than sending Sinomlando trainers to other parts of the continent. It should be noted, however, that this scheme only works with well trained community workers who have prior experience in care for orphans and vulnerable children.

Participants in exposure programmes join activities organised by the Memory Box Programme for the duration of their stay. These include training workshops, children’s camps, the Capacity Building Programme, family visits and discussions with community workers trained by the Sinomlando Centre.

Since 2006 exposure programmes were facilitated at least once per year. Three of were organised by Sinomlando in 2008, one in 2009 and one in 2011. The guests were senior community workers from Kinshasa and Bukavu (Democratic Republic of Congo), Yaoundé and Foumban (Cameroun), Mekele (Ethiopia), Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Cotonou (Benin), Bangui (Republic of Central Africa).Kigoma (Tanzania) and Nairobi (Kenya)
