Four-Day Training Workshops

An important element of Sinomlando's Memory Work programme is the training facilitated to community workers on four consecutive days. During the first half participants receive basic information on various aspects of Memory Work. The second part of the workshop, on the third and fourth days, is more practical and includes several exercises. The workshop curriculum comprises the modules Psychosocial Needs of Children, Child Bereavement Counseling, Resources within the Community, Methodology of Memory Boxes, Interviewing and Transcribing.

Once the initial training has taken place, the community workers introduce the methodology of Memory Boxes to families allocated to them by their organisation. The experiences are later shared during one-day evaluation workshops: The trainees report on the work they have done in their communities following the four-day training workshop, and the difficulties and challenges they encounter are addressed. Normally the first evaluation workshop is conducted one month after the training workshop, the second three months later and the third six months later.
